Phase One Decisions and Steps

0.  Write four hours a day, six days a week on one 3009 word essay.  Submit for publication.
1. Write a draft outline with 20 chapters.  Revise to be 1-2 sentences a piece.
2.  Select 6 characters, one can be a composite, write a list of 12 transformative moments in your relationship.  Revise for 1 sentence summaries.
3.  Rewrite outlines with 1 sentence summaries with a blended sentence about each character.  Revise.
4.  Make a realistic production schedule.  How many months can you keep up this focus.  Make a schedule of milestones that get you to three complete drafts by the end date.
5. 3 hours: Revise this outline with the sidekicks! Think about the overall narrative arc. What are the pieces that could drive some narrative tension? Draw those out more. Think about the beginning, middle, and end for each section as well. So you've got three areas of revision: a) Work in solid sidekicks that you'll commit to for the chapter. Do not add anyone new who isn't already on the main character list. Think about someone to set up as a dominant presence in that chapter with you. b) Rewrite each chapter summary for narrative tension. c) Create a beginning, middle, and end for each chapter.

Decisions so far:  Cut Jennifer Johnson, cut the stories of the paths you didn't choose (Blake and Juan).  Cut the Big Lebowski for now, we can add it in later.

Keep the siblings. If Memoir Amy wants a baby, she is heavily influenced by her experiences with her siblings and the notion of family. Readers will want to see where that comes from. Probably sounds like it's mostly Kari, although Julie has been such a surprise character in your life that it seems a shame to miss out on her or a composite memory of her.

I am not in favor of adding more characters, like Jenn or Sanders or any other friend at this point. We are trying to make broad sweeps right now. They can be worked in smaller anecdotes later.
