Ratings Update

We finished Don't Lets the Dogs Go Out this week.  I give it a 7 for content, 5 for structure, and 5.5 for emotional impact.

Its great strengths were moments of exquisite, detailed, writing.  Perfect descriptions of her mother, eyes at half mast, drunk from the grief of losing three children and the exploration of being white supremacist expats living in Rhodesia during two wars.  It didn't hold together well enough, it was just a non-writers very well written story of her life.  HD commented on how well she showed and didn't tell.

Here is where it falls in my list for the year:

Five Stars:

All Over But the Shoutin
Why Be Normal When you can Be Happy
Bastard Out Of Carolina
Tattoos On the Heart

Four Stars:

Truth and Beauty

Three Stars:

Orange is the New Black
Don't Let's The Dogs Go Out

Zero Stars:

Wild
